    Two teams of Design C students win awards in the ACSA Green Communities
    International Student competition

    Tim Keepers & Wes Bradley, design MOBILITY IN FLUX was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2008-09 Concrete Thinking for a Sustainable World – Transit Hub (Category I), International Student Design Competition. The project was completed in the Advanced Design B course taught by Vikas Mehta and myself in the fall of 2008.

    The Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has recognized the Franciscan Center Riverside Pavilion, designed and built by USF School of Architecture and Community Design students, with a design award. The project was awarded an Honorable Mention, Associate/Intern Category “conveyed on those projects which demonstrate a commitment to excellence in architectural design.”

    The School of Architecture and Community Design at the University of South Florida is very pleased to announce three new faculty who will be joining the School with the start of the 2009-10 academic year.  Please join us in extending a very warm welcome to our three new faculty members.

    Mr. Robert (Bob) MacLeod as tenured full professor and Director of the School of Architecture and Community Design

    Ms. Nancy Sanders as tenured associate professor in architecture

    Mr. Mark Weston as tenure-earning assistant professor in architecture with a digital fabrication focus

    Bob MacLeod has a Master of Architecture from Harvard University and has been on the faculty at the University of Florida since 1987.  He is a registered architect in the state of Florida and partner with SWiMcau (Sanders Wang MacLeod international consortium for architecture & urbanism.  Current research projects include: Post-industrial Place-making in the Age of Information and Entertainment (study of 550 acre industrial site in Orlando); Urban Mosaic (Public space plan studies for downtown Orlando); counter MEASURES (invited competition/ exhibition/ symposium to “examine New Orleans as a case study…of achieving resilience in the face of extreme circumstances.”


    Nancy Sanders has a Master of Architecture from Harvard University and has been on the faculty at the University of Florida since 1997.  Ms. Sanders is the founding director of the UF School of Architecture Hong Kong/China Program and is a partner with SWiMcau. Recently Sanders co-authored the introduction to the monograph on the Hong Kong-based firm, ARK, titled “Deep Skin,“ published by Watermark Publications (UK) Limited.

    Mark Weston holds a Master of Architecture with distinction from the University of Michigan and most recently was a visiting faculty member in the School of Architecture and Community Design at the University of South Florida.  While serving as a Lecturer at the University of Michigan Mr. Weston ran the digital fabrication laboratory and since that time has worked with Gehry Partners, Ply Architecture, Bowen Architecture, and currently Maurer Weston LLC.

    Please take the opportunity to welcome our new faculty members as they make the University of South Florida and Tampa their new home.

    Bob MacLeod will be on campus at various times during the remainder of the semester.

    Many of you already know Mark from his position as a visiting faculty this year so please give him your congratulations as you see him around the school.
