B. TERRY JOHNSON, AICP is an Associate in Research in the Florida Center for Community Design and Research at the School of Architecture. The center is the primary USF community-focused interface and brings together university experts from 11 academic disciplines to solve urban and regional problems related to both the natural and built environment.

Johnson is the Community Design and Program Coordinator for the Community Atlas initiative. This dynamic web-based reference provides maps and data about neighborhoods, communities and municipalities throughout Hillsborough County, and exemplifies his focus on the integration of information technology and other innovative approaches to help people understand and plan their community. Using this compilation of valuable information, citizens and governments can make informed planning and growth management decisions.

Johnson specializes in local comprehensive planning, strategic planning, environmental and neighborhood planning; public and stakeholder involvement, and the development and analysis of community indicators. 

Johnson served as Planning Manager for the Southwest Florida Water Management District, the Director of Planning for Design Consortium, Ltd., Special Services Manager for Tampa Parks Department, and Planner with the Tampa Bureau of City Planning.

Johnson earned his Bachelor of General Studies in Social Sciences at Ohio University, a Master of Science in Urban / Regional Planning with a specialization in Environmental Planning at the University of Arizona, and is completing his Doctorate in Applied Anthropology at the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
